POPEY Resources

POPEY recently celebrated its 5th birthday. How time flies!
As we were reflecting on our journey so far, we realized how fortunate we’ve been to
be able to share our resources with so many educators in the province, who have
given us some terrific feedback on these resources. (thank you, all!)
We thought we’d take this opportunity to share some of our favourite resources, some
that have been around for a while, some that are new!
We’ve been talking a lot about play-based literacy activities in workshops lately, in
particular with Word Work, to help keep students engaged. To that end, we’ve been
sharing out our K-3 Literacy Centres ideas, as well as our Phonological Awareness
Games.

Language Games to Support Phonological Awareness

POPEY was fortunate to be invited to participate in a project with SD 79 (Cowichan
Valley) and some other Provincial Outreach Programs this year. We took our inclusive
literacy lens and focused in on Social Emotional Learning, and how we can weave SEL
into the K-3 ELA curriculum as well as the Core Competencies, to help support our
students emotionally as well as academically. We created an SEL Overview & Skills
document, that we wanted to share with you all!

We’ve been sharing brain-based strategies & activities from this year’s Keynote
Speaker, Marcia Tate, for a few years - it’s such amazing stuff! Recently, we took
activities from our Literacy Centres document, & combined them with some of the
ideas from Marcia’s brain-based activities. It’s been a well-received overview in many
workshops...showing how we can engage all of our different types of learners in the
classroom.
